K3 - K5 CURRICULUM
The K3 program is a 1/2 day program or full day. In the K3 program children learn to recognize the letters A-Z, count from 1-30 and recognize numbers 1-15. They will also learn to recognize colors, basic shapes and learn Bible stories. The students will memorize Bible verses and develop social skills.
Children must be potty-trained before entering the K3 program.
K4 & K5 teachers use the ABeka curriculum; a Bible-based curriculum that we continue to use throughout elementary school. In the morning, students have their academic subjects. In the afternoons, they have Bible story time, rest break, and recess or another activity. Classes also participate in "specials time" that includes a once a week period in art, computer, physical education, music and library.

1st - 6th GRADE ELEMENTARY CURRICULUM
Bible - The ABeka Bible curriculum is used. Lessons come from the Old and New Testaments with an emphasis on salvation through Jesus Christ. Memorization of Scripture passages weekly is one of the components of the WCS curriculum.
Language Arts - In first and second grades, the ABeka curriculum is utilized to review the basic phonics skills taught in K3 and K5 while building reading fluency, word recognition and comprehension skills. Spelling lists reinforce phonics concepts. Students also learn to write simple sentences and stories.
In third through sixth grades, higher level comprehension skills are emphasized using the Bob Jones Reading Curriculum. Novels are used to supplement the reading anthology. The ABeka Language Curriculum is used to develop grammar and writing skills.
Mathematics - Students are taught computation and problem solving skills using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. In addition, they are also introduced to basic geometry skills. By the end of sixth grade, students have been taught all the math concepts necessary to begin pre-algebra.
History - The WCS history curriculum encompasses both world and U.S. history with an emphasis on our Christian heritage. Research projects are assigned in 4th-6th grades as follows:
--Fourth grade - Maryland history project
--Fifth grade - Research paper on a foreign country
--Sixth grade - Research paper on a U.S. president
Science - Science is taught from a Christ-centered worldview. Areas investigated include botany, weather, insects, geology, energy, oceanography, ecology, astronomy, and health.
Enrichment classes - In addition to academic courses, students have weekly classes in Music, Art, Physical Education, Computer, Introductory Spanish and Library.
7th & 8th GRADE CURRICULUM
We do use ability grouping to better address the needs of individual students, and to enable teachers to either go more slowly or quickly depending on comprehension level. All students follow a 7 period per day schedule; Bible is taught first period, with the remaining classes being 53 minutes each. Since there are at least two sections in the academic subjects, our class size is usually limited to 15.
